“A mask tells us more than a face.“

Still at it. I haven’t shared a phone box in a minute, but I think they are perfect subjects. Rockefeller Center, 2024 and 10th Avenue, fall 2023.

It’s the only one you’ve got.

This week marked gender pay gap day - a day in mid-March (women’s history month, naturally) that acknowledges the time it takes full-time female employees to make up the previous year’s wages, as compared to their male colleagues. This isn’t to call anyone out, but to consider the history. I remember when I was a photojournalism student, working for a tiny newspaper in a sleepy suburb in Alberta, Canada, living with my great aunt. She recalled that when she graduated from college (which was rare for her generation), there were three options for women. Nurse, secretary, teacher.

It was one for the books, in which I identified with the rabid fandom, was impressed by the original proton pack nestled in the back of a sprinter van, laughed when Bill Murray arrived, sprinkling water from a bottle on the throngs of fans, then entered through an open flap at the back of the media tent, finally taking a look at me as I approached him, saying, “This is what you decide to wear to our opening?!” with deadpan sarcasm.

A year ago I was in Disney World with the family. Although the “sec checks” at the Disney resort were suspicious, I still love the eternal camp of The Most Magical Place. These are the film photos I never shared; they mirror the whirlwind of nostalgia I feel looking back. I’m never too old to dream of returning, for the dozenth time.

Seasons are changing, and although spring is my favorite it’s always a reward for the doldrums of winter. We broke our record this year but our season was more reminiscent of the Pacific Northwest than I would like. I left there because I hate that winter rain!
